Over the last 5-plus years I’ve been able to build a wonderful team that helps me every day to get the word out about Applied Wisdom for Nonprofits. I credit them by name in the booklet, including my Leadership Advocates outreach team, the authors of this week’s post. I truly could not have embarked on this journey without them.

You can see the results on our website. We’ve now distributed some 48,000 booklets to over 3,200 nonprofits in all 50 states and in 96 other countries. Our Applied Wisdom course is fast gaining traction.

I’d like to share the writing of this newsletter with my team on occasion. Here’s a first post. It’s longer than my usual newsletter, because it’s an introduction to their thoughts and their perspective on enhancing your management and leadership skills with the resources that we share. I’ll see you again next week!

Leadership Advocates’ Perspective: What Is Applied Wisdom?

Applied Wisdom is about you.

You are your own authority. Your internal wisdom is your best and highest guide. This guide is standing in the middle of a deafening, fast-moving stream of internet content, books, podcasts, course offerings, and webinars. The sheer volume of material creates anxiety. What if you miss something important? What if you miss something your colleagues are buzzing about? The more serious you are about learning and growth, the more this thundering array of content offerings creates anxiety and FOMO.

At Applied Wisdom, our goal is to create a safe space, a quiet lagoon, beyond the thundering noise, where your own thinking and wisdom take precedence. We believe that one concept is more powerful than one thousand, when that one concept truly resonates with you and you can apply it thoughtfully, in ways that are authentic to you as you are right now.

The seven of us on this team spend time out there in the thundering stream and bring back nuggets that we believe are worthy of your consideration. We are a team with considerable practical experience running organizations, living in the messy and wonderful arena of real-world management and leadership, both for-profit and nonprofit. We know it’s noisy, challenging and yet deeply fulfilling.

Our founder, Jim Morgan, a 30-year Fortune 500 CEO and active, engaged philanthropist, started, and continues to fund, Applied Wisdom to serve and equip you, in your commitment to building your skills as a manager and a leader, working to make the world a better place based on your personal vision.

What impact do you want to make in the world? Whatever you are called to do, it’s our honor and pleasure to put our experience into your service through Applied Wisdom.

Finally — please have your own running list of tips, quotations, and things that inspire you, so that you can share them with others along your journey… Part of being a great leader means reflecting on your own leadership, returning to core principles, and to ideas that resonate with you, thinking about how they apply to your work now, and “paying it forward” by sharing your tips with others. Never underestimate the importance of your unique perspective and wisdom and how valuable you are to the world.

As Jim so often says: To your success!
